Interview with Prof. Dr. Schmidt: Diversity as a competitive advantage
Why do German companies still underestimate the benefits of diversity? What makes an inclusive work environment so essential for the successful development of a business? Prof. Dr. Schmidt gives answers in an interview with the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg.
In September 2020, the German Diversity Monitor under the scientific direction of Prof. Dr. Susanne Schmidt revealed a deep lack of understanding of diversity in German companies. The results of the study conducted for Beyond Gender Agenda show that even after the introduction of the flexi-quota in 2015, the executive boards of German DAX30, MDAX, and SDAX companies have remained rather homogenous.
In an interview for the Otto-von-Guericke University, Prof. Dr. Susanne Schmidt stresses once more that diversity at work is often misunderstood. Therefore, the benefits of diversity and inclusion are neglected. Why is diversity yet so important? What can SMEs do to take action and how can research support the development of inclusive work environments?
